The Cycle claims to be PvEvP monster hunting, out now

The Cycle from Yager Studio pits you against other people to fight the monsters.

The Cycle from Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager Development is a PvEvP shooter that has you compete against other players to complete monster-slaying quests, and it's available to play now.

The shooter is in open alpha now on Epic Games Store after a year-long closed alpha where they worked out some kinks in what sounds like a quite confusing premise already. Yager's advice is to "play it and find out" what kind of game it is.

Its visuals seem very familiar to another PvE title on the Epic Games Store right now, Dauntless, which sees you embark as a hunter of monsters in a free-to-play version of a popular game franchise whose name eludes us at the moment.

Here is how The Cycle describes itself:

A New Frontier: Explore the world of Fortuna III – a hostile, beautiful new world, full of resources, alien life, and other Prospectors looking to take its riches.
PvEvP: Gun fights against other Prospectors may give you an edge – but the best players are those who can take on dangerous jobs against AI monsters during a match.
Factions: Take on jobs for 3 different factions when you are down on the planet. As your reputation grows with each of them, they will give you access to exciting new technology and equipment to craft. Each faction has an arsenal with its own very distinctive items.
3 game modes: Prospectors can meet on the surface of Fortuna III and join fragile alliances with one another as they complete contracts. Or they can directly start as part of a duo or a 4-player squad.
Storm: The Cycle leaves only a narrow window of opportunity – stay too long, and you will be trapped on the planet and ravaged by the radiation storm.

You can download The Cycle to play now on the Epic Games Store to find out how that plays.

The Cycle's open alpha announcement came as part of the opening ceremony of Gamescom 2019, Opening Night Live. This is the first such keynote stream, organized by industry veteran Geoff Keighley, and has some of the heft of an E3 presentation if not all of the exclusives.
