Cuphead has sold 2m copies

Deal with the devil pays off.

Studio MDHR's beautiful and infuriating boss rush shoot-'em-up Cuphead has now sold more than two million copies, the developer revealed on its website.

"Hello friends! Much to our shock and amazement, we can announce that Cuphead has now sold over two million copies across all platforms," the update reads.

"Even in our wildest dreams, we never thought our crazy little characters would be embraced by this many fans from around the world and we are continuously humbled by your support."

Cuphead was a rare Xbox One console exclusive - also released on PC - and drew plenty of attention thanks to its distinctive art and audio style inspired by 1930s animation.

It was also a bastard-hard game, demanding intense concentration to intuit the different boss attack patterns that would carry you successfully through an encounter taking a maximum of three hits. The process usually took many attempts.

We thought it was fantastic in our Cuphead review, so we're certainly pleased to learn of its commercial success as well!
