To craft weapons and armor in Dauntless, you’ll need to break many different Behemoth parts to earn specific crafting reagents. As you craft the rare items in the game, you’ll find yourself hunting for stranger crafting parts such as the rare gems. Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem can all be earned in both Elemental and Neutral flavors, but it’s fairly unlikely that you’ll have picked up many during your regular Pursuits or Patrols. Don’t worry if you've been left a bit confused, in this guide we’ll teach you how to get both Neutral and Elemental Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem in Dauntless.
How to get Elemental Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem
Tailgems, Clawgems and Skullgems are a unique type of Behemoth part that you can harvest on hunts against Behemoths of Threat Level 8+. As you might expect, Elemental Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem can only be earned as a Rare drop from Elemental Behemoths (not Neutral), though the type doesn’t matter. However, you’ll also need to meet certain requirements while out Behemoth bashing to get them. The key to gem parts is that you must break the relevant Behemoth parts within two minutes of starting combat.
In the case of Elemental Tailgem, for example, you need to hunt an Elemental Behemoth, and sever its tail within two minutes of starting the fight with it (roughly determined by when the Behemoth notices you and the action music kicks in). Clawgem requires you to break the limbs of any Behemoth, while Skullgem asks you to break the head within two minutes. Both Claw and Skullgem can be earned with any weapon, but to get Tailgems you cannot use a Hammer as blunt damage cannot sever tails. Stick to slashing weapons or the Axe to improve your severing speed.
How to get Neutral Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem
Neutral Tailgem, Clawgem and Skullgem are earned in the exact same manner as the elemental types. The only difference here is that you must break the parts of a Neutral Behemoth of Threat Level 8+. Check our list of all Behemoths in Dauntless to know which you can fight in each category.
To ensure you break the part within the time limit, we recommend taking on a Threat Level 8 Behemoth with a full group of Slayers. Equip the full team with Swords, Chain Blades or Axes (you can also use a War Pike to wound the part if you like) that counter the elemental type of the Behemoth (if it has one). Focus solely on this part of the Behemoth to ensure you deal all the damage you can to the part. Damage boosting cells and potions also go a long way to helping here. The Ragetail Gnasher or Firebrand Charrogg are great choices for earning these parts.
